Q: What is your business?
A: editaudio is a full-suite production house with a team in Canada, the US and the UK. The company was founded in 2012 with a focus on creating space for underrepresented voices in audio. Notable clients include NowThis News, Harper’s Bazaar, Stack Overflow, Historica Canada, The Consul General in Silicon Valley, and the Google News Initiative. In 2020, editaudio launched its own series of Originals, including the Ambie-nominated series Date With Daddy, and Ozarks True Crime: The Springfield Three which has amassed an audience of over 2 million listeners worldwide.
Q: What is unique about your business?
A: We are queer-owned and entirely operated by women and non-binary staff. We are mission-driven and were created as a direct response to the lack of representation in the industry. Since our inception, [we have] committed to creating more opportunities for people of marginalized identities as both on-air talent and members of production houses [that create] the content.
Q: How has being a Certified LGBTBE® impacted your business? Why did you join nglccNY?
A: I'm new to nglccNY and joined at the suggestion of a friend because I am trying to celebrate my business more and step into my confidence as a CEO. Often in life, we are forced back into closets or asked to be less of ourselves. I find that especially true in the business world. Being a part of nglccNY has allowed me to see myself represented in the business world of New York and to have community. It's created a safe space for me to network while showing up as myself, proving that I can be both a queer person and a CEO.
Q: What is your favorite part about the nglccNY community?
A: Community and networking with less of a wall in front of me.
Q: What does it mean to you to be an LGBTQ+ entrepreneur?
A: It means so much to me. I am so fortunate to be a proud CEO and a proud queer person in the world. The struggles of my past and inability to see myself represented in the world fueled the mission behind my company. It has shaped who I am and is now shaping how I run my business. I believe the more LGBTQ businesses there are in the world, the more we can shape a future that not only includes us, but celebrates our experiences.
